The Capo Skyline GT-R R34 runs eight separate functions — steering, throttle, a two-speed gearbox, four-wheel steering, lights, engine sound, a horn and smoke. This guide covers pairing it with the Flysky Noble NB4+, what every control on the radio does, and how to drive the car once it is all working. First, check whether you have one receiver or two

The R34 has eight functions to control. The FGr4B receiver supplied with the NB4+ has four PWM outputs — so a single receiver can only ever run half the car. Running everything needs two receivers, in the NB4+'s Two RX Mode.

If you only have one, the car will still drive perfectly well on steering, throttle and two extra functions. You can add the second receiver later without redoing anything else.

Part 1 One-time setup

This section only needs doing once. On a radio that has already been configured, Part 2 is the place to go.

  1. Create a model profile and name it

    The NB4+ holds 25 model memories and stores everything per model, so start on an empty one. Go to FUNCTION → MODEL, pick an unused slot, then name it under FUNCTION → NAMEGTR-R34 is the sensible choice. The name shows in the top-left corner of the home screen, which is how you confirm you are on the right profile before every run.

  2. Set the channel count on the NB4+

    MODEL → Channel Number Definition. Choose 8 if you are running two receivers, or 4 for a single receiver. The radio warns that re-binding is required — that is normal. Doing it before binding rather than after saves binding twice.

  3. Bind the FGr4B receivers

    RX SET → Bind Set. The FGr4B is an enhanced receiver, so no bind plug is needed. Choose One RX Mode for a single receiver, or Two RX Mode for two.

    Tap Start Bind, then power the receiver — its LED flashes rapidly, then goes solid when linked. For the second receiver, set its start channel to CH5 before binding. That is what makes its outputs appear as channels 5–8 instead of duplicating 1–4.

  4. Assign the switches and channels

    FUNCTION → ASSIGN shows a diagram of the transmitter with every key around the edge. A green background means that key already has a function. Tap a key, tap Function, choose the channel, then set the mode — see the control map in Part 2 for what goes where.

    The setting worth reading twice is Mode. Trigger fires while you hold the key and stops when you release it, which is right for the horn and engine sound. TURN keeps its state after you let go, which is right for four-wheel steering and anything that must stay on.

  5. Name your channels

    The NB4+ can label each channel, so the screen shows the function and its state in words instead of an anonymous percentage bar. With eight functions running, this is worth the two minutes it takes — a screen of eight identical percentage bars gives no clue as to which one is the horn and which is the smoke.

  6. Program the smoke mixes

    Smoke has no switch of its own — it is driven by two mixes so it behaves like real exhaust smoke. Under FUNCTION → MIXES, set Mix 1 with the engine sound channel as master and the smoke channel as slave, and Mix 2 with throttle as master and smoke as slave. Switch both on, leave mixes 3–6 off.

  7. Set the failsafe, then test it

    This matters on a car this heavy. Under RX SET → Failsafe, set throttle to Fixed Value at neutral or light brake, and steering and gearbox to Hold. Channels left unset have no failsafe at all.

    Then use the built-in Failsafe Test — press and hold for over a second and the radio cuts its own RF output so you can watch what the car does in a real dropout. Wheels off the ground for this.

  8. Check every channel on Servo View

    Servo View lists Steering, Throttle and CH3–CH8 with live bars. Work through each control and confirm the right channel responds before you close the body up.

The graphical servo screen only shows four channels

There is a second screen, Display Servos, that draws servo dials for Steering, Throttle, CH3 and CH4 only. That is a limit of that screen, not of your setup. Use Servo View when you need to see all eight.

Part 2 NB4+ channel assignment for the R34

Steering and throttle are fixed to channels 1 and 2 and cannot be moved. The rest are assignable — this is the layout we recommend, and the one our demo car uses.

If your car was set up by someone else and the switches don't match this table, open FUNCTION → ASSIGN — every key with a green background has a function, and tapping it shows you which channel it drives.

Part 3 Driving the R34

Powering up the R34, in this order

  1. Transmitter on first. Hold the top button gently — there is a deliberate delay before it boots, so wait rather than pressing harder. Check the top-left corner reads GTR-R34.
  2. Then connect the car's battery and wait for the link to establish.
  3. Put the gearbox in neutral before you touch the throttle.
  4. Test with the wheels off the ground — steering, throttle both ways, then each function in turn. Thirty seconds here catches nearly everything.

Shutting down is the reverse: disconnect the car's battery first, then switch off the transmitter. Never the other way round — with the radio off and the car still live, the car can move unintentionally.

Using the two-speed gearbox

Low gear gives you acceleration out of corners; high gear gives you top end. Neutral sits in the middle so you can leave the car running without it creeping.

Change gear the way you would in a real car — ease off the throttle as you shift. Shifting under full load puts everything through the gearbox dogs at once. Move the control fully into position rather than leaving it between detents, or the gearbox may not engage cleanly.

If the shift feels violent

FUNCTION → CH SPEED adds a movement delay to channels 3–8. A small delay on the gearbox channel turns an instant snap into a smoother movement — easier on the transmission, and far more convincing to watch.

Using four-wheel steering

With four-wheel steering engaged, the rear wheels turn too, which dramatically tightens the car's turning circle. It is one of the R34's signature features and it is genuinely useful — for manoeuvring in tight spaces, lining the car up for a shot, or parking it somewhere awkward.

Switch it off before you drive quickly

Four-wheel steering makes the car much less stable at speed. This is a heavy model — over 3.5 kg before electronics — and a sharp input with the rear wheels steering can put it on its roof. Treat it as a low-speed feature: engage it for manoeuvring, disengage it before you open the throttle.

Lights, sound and smoke

The lighting steps through its stages one press at a time, so you can run small lights, headlights or the full set. Holding the button starts the hazard flash; hold it again to stop.

The engine sound and horn are separate switches. Smoke is the one to understand, because it has no button — it starts when you start the engine sound, and builds as you apply throttle. That is deliberate: it means the car smokes when it should, without you juggling another switch mid-corner.

Part 4 Tuning the NB4+ for grip and drift

These change how the car drives without touching any assignment. All under FUNCTION.

Copy the model before you experiment

Once you have a setup you like, copy it to an empty model slot and make changes there. You can keep a grip setup and a drift setup and switch between them in a couple of taps, with your working configuration always intact.

Two settings that will undo your work

Channel Number Definition — changing it always breaks the bind on both receivers.

Factory Reset — clears everything: the profile, all switch assignments, both mixes. If something has gone wrong, contact us before resetting. Restoring one setting is far quicker than rebuilding all eight channels by hand.


Flysky NB4+ troubleshooting

Steering and throttle work, but the lights, sound and smoke do nothing

The first channels alive and the higher ones dead almost always points at the second receiver. Check it has power and a solid LED, and confirm its start channel is CH5 — if both receivers start at channel 1 they duplicate each other instead of extending the range. Check on Servo View: if CH5 and above still move on screen when you press the switches, the radio is doing its job and the fault is in the car.

A function only works while I hold the button down

That key is in Trigger mode. It is correct for the horn and engine sound, but wrong for anything that should stay on. Go to FUNCTION → ASSIGN, tap the key, and change Mode to TURN.

The gearbox won't hold a gear, or grinds

Move the control fully into its low or high position rather than leaving it between detents, and ease off the throttle as you shift. If the shift servo buzzes continuously once a gear is engaged, it is being pushed slightly past what the gearbox allows — reduce that channel's endpoint in EPA until the noise stops.

A servo buzzes even when nothing is moving

Same cause wherever it happens: the servo is being driven past its mechanical limit and stalling against it. Find the channel on Servo View, then reduce its endpoint in EPA. Left alone this drains the pack quickly and can burn out the servo or the receiver's power supply.

The smoke won't stop

Smoke has no switch — it runs from the two mixes. Turning off the engine sound removes the first source. If it still runs, open FUNCTION → MIXES and confirm only Mix 1 and Mix 2 are on, and that the smoke channel is the slave in both rather than the master.

The car rolled over when I turned sharply

Check whether four-wheel steering was engaged. It tightens the turning circle enormously, which is exactly what you want at walking pace and exactly what you don't want at speed on a 3.5 kg car. Disengage it before driving quickly.

The switches don't do what this guide says

First check the model name in the top-left corner — assignments are stored per model, so on a different profile the switches will do nothing or something unexpected. If the profile is right, open FUNCTION → ASSIGN to see the actual layout: every key with a green background has a function, and tapping it shows which channel it drives.

The car twitches or cuts out at distance

Run a range test before assuming a fault. Route both receiver antennas away from the ESC, motor and battery leads, and keep them clear of the magnesium alloy bodywork where possible — metal close to an antenna shortens usable range. Make sure neither antenna is coiled up inside the chassis.

How many channels does the Flysky Noble NB4+ have?

Eight. You set how many are active under MODEL → Channel Number Definition, and it should match what your receivers can actually output — there is no benefit to selecting more channels than you have outputs for. Eight is the ceiling on this radio; the Noble Pro range goes to eighteen if you need more.

Which receiver comes with the NB4+, and can I use a different one?

The box includes one FGr4B, an enhanced AFHDS 3 receiver with four PWM outputs. It binds without a bind plug. The NB4+ works with other AFHDS 3 receivers too, and adding a second FGr4B in Two RX Mode is the documented way to reach eight channels. Whatever you fit, set the channel count to match and re-bind afterwards.


Practise on the NB4+ simulator first

The NB4+ has USB simulator support switched on by default. Connect it to a PC with the USB-C cable and it works as a controller for RC simulator software. An hour getting used to the wheel and trigger costs nothing, and this is not a car you want to learn throttle control on.

Two habits worth keeping from the start: never grip the transmitter antenna while driving, and stop when the low-voltage alarm sounds rather than pushing for one more run.
