When Humanity First Made Machinery Run Freely
Today, you just need to press a button.
R18 One-Button Start Gasoline Engine Model — Real Combustion | Ready to Run
You're Not Buying a Model
You're receiving a fully assembled working engine
Most Models Are Built or Displayed. This One Runs.
The R18 is not a DIY project and does not require assembly or tuning. It is delivered in a ready-to-run condition.
After unboxing, operation is straightforward: add fuel and start the engine. The system responds immediately. The flywheel begins to rotate, combustion drives the mechanical cycle, and the engine transitions into stable running mode.
There is no simulation layer or display-only function. What you get is a real internal combustion engine operating under real mechanical conditions.

Watch It Really Start
Real gasoline, real combustion, real power
Real Combustion Experience
The R18 is powered by gasoline rather than electrical simulation. Combustion occurs inside the engine, producing genuine mechanical output that drives every moving component.
The flywheel builds visible momentum and transitions into steady rotation, while the system maintains continuous, stable operation.
Once running, it behaves as a live mechanical system, fully driven by real physical processes.
1886 Machinery Reborn
In 1886, humanity first gave machinery the freedom to move independently.
R18 doesn't replicate history. On your desktop, it recreates the moment of "first engine start"

Build the Complete Origin Story
The R18 and DM229 are inspired by the same historic machine that introduced the world to the automobile era — but they offer two completely different ways to experience it.
The R18 focuses on the raw mechanical side of early engineering, featuring real gasoline-powered combustion and exposed moving engine components that bring vintage mechanics to life. The DM229 transforms that same concept into a fully buildable classical automobile model. As the vehicle moves, both the wheels and engine operate together, recreating the synchronized mechanical motion of a real early automobile startup process — all powered through an elegant electric drive system.
One lets you experience the mechanics. The other lets you build the automobile itself. Separately, they are impressive models. Together, they create something far more immersive — a complete tribute to the birth of motoring history.
Not just collecting two models. But owning both the mechanical soul and the automobile built around it.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is this a replica of the first automobile engine from 1886?
Yes. The R18 is inspired by the original 1886 Benz humanity's first automobile. This gas-powered 3-wheel engine model recreates the mechanical design of that historic internal combustion engine. Unlike museum replicas or static display pieces that don't operate, the R18 is fully functional and operates on real gasoline, letting you experience how the world's first car engine actually performed.
How does a real working engine model differ from display replicas?
The R18 three wheeler engine model is a fully operational internal combustion engine model—not just a display piece. While most vintage automobile engine replicas or 1886 car engine models are static collectibles, the R18 actually runs on 95# unleaded gasoline and produces real mechanical combustion. This makes it unique among engine replica collections and automotive history models. You're not just viewing mechanical engineering history—you're witnessing it function.
What's the difference between R18 Engine and Teching DM229 Car Model kits?
Both R18 and DM229 are inspired by the same 1886 prototype—humanity's first automobile. R18 is the engine component: gas-powered, fully operational, showing you how combustion actually drives mechanical motion. DM229 is the complete vehicle: an electric-powered model that perfectly recreates how that engine's power would have been channeled through a complete automotive system. Together they tell the complete story. Separately, R18 gives you the pure mechanical experience of the original engine, while DM229 demonstrates how that power integrates into a working automobile.
How Does R18 Engine Work?
The R18 operates as a real internal combustion engine on a miniature scale. You add 95# unleaded gasoline, press start, and the engine ignites. The combustion cycle drives the piston, which rotates the flywheel. This creates the same mechanical power that the original 1886 engine produced. You can watch the entire combustion cycle unfold—intake, compression, ignition, exhaust—in real-time. It's not a simulation; it's actual mechanical engineering. This hands-on experience teaches you more about internal combustion engine mechanics than any textbook.
Is R18 a good gift?
Yes, R18 makes an exceptional gift for engineers, history enthusiasts, collectors, and anyone fascinated by how things work. It's a conversation piece that bridges mechanical engineering and historical significance. Whether for birthdays, anniversaries, or special occasions, the R18 offers something rare: a functioning piece of automotive history you can actually operate. It's ideal for those who appreciate working mechanical models, vintage automobile replicas, or the engineering that changed civilization.

A very highly detailed engine that can be run or displayed as a work of art. The engine is accurate right down to the slide valve intake. The initial adjustment to the carburetor is a bit tricky but once set it runs very reliably even at slower speeds. The only issue I have found is the cylinder sleeve o-rings do leak if the cooling tank cover is left on and the engine is run for long periods. Leave the cover off when running the engine. Leave the cover off until the engine cools off. I liked this engine enough I bought three.
