Why Choose the DM940

Stainless Steel vs. Resin Look-Alikes

Search "V8 engine mug" and most of what you'll find are light resin cups painted to look like metal. Here's the difference you can feel the moment you pick it up.

Built for Daily Coffee

Lid Off for Coffee, Lid On for Display

Your drink only touches the food-grade stainless steel inner cup. At 400 ml (13.5 oz) it holds a full mug of coffee, tea, beer, soda or water, hot or cold.

When you're done, put the piston-style lid back on. With its ring grooves and "TECHING V8 POWER SINCE 1914" on top, it turns the mug into a small V8 for your desk or shelf.

Look closer and you'll find pistons and connecting rods on both banks, a crankshaft pulley, red timing pulleys and a V8 badge on a finned red body.

Fire Up an Engine with Your Morning Coffee

Choose Mug + Coffee Cup Stirling Engine and get a low temperature Stirling engine with your DM940. Take the lid off, set the Stirling on top of your hot coffee, and it runs on nothing but the heat from your cup. Two engines on one mug: a V8 you can hold, and one that actually runs.

Pass down the love of engines. Give the flywheel a gentle push and watch the kids' eyes light up the way yours did the first time you heard a V8 fire up. No fuel, no batteries, just a cup of hot coffee or water.

1914
V8 Power Since 1914

A Tribute to the Classic V8

1914 is the year the V8 engine first went into mass production, and car culture was never the same. Over the next hundred years, the V8 became the heart of muscle cars, hot rods, pickup trucks and race cars, and its deep rumble became a sound every car lover knows.

The DM940 is TECHING's tribute to that classic. Every morning coffee is a small salute to more than a century of V8 power.

FAQ

Questions About the DM940

Is the TECHING DM940 V8 engine mug safe for hot coffee?
Yes. Your drink sits in a food-grade stainless steel inner cup, so it's suitable for hot coffee and tea as well as cold drinks like beer, soda and water. The metal body can get warm with hot drinks, so hold it by the handle.
Is the TECHING DM940 stainless steel or resin?
Stainless steel. That's why it weighs 850 g, far heavier than the resin V8 engine mugs you'll see elsewhere, which are plastic painted to look like metal.
How much does the TECHING DM940 V8 mug hold?
400 ml (13.5 oz), about the same as a large standard coffee mug.
Does the TECHING DM940 V8 mug come with a lid?
Yes, a removable piston-style metal lid. It keeps dust out when the mug is on display and helps your coffee stay warm a little longer. It's a cover, not a sealed travel lid, so it isn't made for carrying drinks around.
What does "V8 POWER SINCE 1914" on the TECHING DM940 lid mean?
1914 is the year the V8 engine first went into mass production. The line on the lid is TECHING's tribute to more than a century of V8 history, from early motor cars to today's muscle cars, hot rods and race cars.
What is the Mug + Coffee Cup Stirling Engine package?
It's the TECHING DM940 V8 engine mug plus a low temperature Stirling engine, also called a coffee cup Stirling engine or coffee engine. Set the Stirling on top of the DM940 filled with hot coffee and it runs on the heat from your drink. The set is $119.99, compared with $126.98 when bought separately.
Does the coffee cup Stirling engine fit the TECHING DM940 mug?
Yes. We've tested it: the low temperature Stirling engine sits on the rim of the DM940 and runs on hot coffee, tea or water. Take the mug's lid off first.
Can I use the coffee engine set to show kids how a Stirling engine works?
Yes. Fill the TECHING DM940 with hot water or coffee, set the Stirling on top and give the flywheel a push. It's an easy, hands-on way to show how heat turns into motion. An adult should handle the hot drink, and kids can watch and help start the flywheel.
Can I put the TECHING V8 engine mug in the microwave or dishwasher?
Not in the microwave, as it's metal. We recommend hand washing the mug and lid to protect the finish and the engine details.
Is the DM940 V8 mug a good gift for a car lover?
Yes. It comes boxed and works as both a daily coffee mug and a display piece, which makes it an easy pick for car enthusiasts, mechanics and engine model collectors at Christmas, Father's Day and birthdays.
Is this mug a working engine like the TECHING V8 model kit?
No. Both are made by TECHING, but the DM940 is drinkware, not a working engine model. If you want a V8 you can build and run, see our TECHING engine models.
