Some machines only grow more captivating with time. This is more than a hit-and-miss engine — it is a breathing, miniature power station from the golden age of craftsmanship. Start it by hand, settle into its unhurried rhythm, and watch it light a vintage lamp: the pulse of machinery meeting the glow of electric light, a century later, on your desk.
Most model engines arrive as a box of parts — and a weekend (or three) of assembly and carburetor tuning before the first pop. This one is fully adjusted and test-run at the factory. Your setup is minutes, not days: connect the CDI ignition module and battery box, install the chimney, mix fuel, and start.
A hit-and-miss engine only fires when it must, coasting on its flywheels between power strokes — the lazy, unhurried bark that once echoed across farms a century ago, and that no modern engine can imitate. It doesn't just run; it breathes. Switch the lamp on and listen closer: the engine fires faster to carry the light, exactly as it did when machines like this lit a farmhouse's first electric bulb.
Nothing is hidden inside a case. From combustion to electrons, you can point at every stage of the conversion while it happens.
Classic single-cylinder layout in machined aluminum, with the governor mechanism in plain view on the crankshaft.
Polished stainless rims store the momentum that carries the engine through its "miss" strokes — the heart of the hit-and-miss rhythm.
The square tank above the cylinder is the cooling system — fill it with water and let evaporation carry the heat away, exactly like the originals.
A working sight-glass oiler feeds the cylinder drop by drop. Brass fuel valve alongside — details usually reserved for full-size restorations.
Belt-driven from the crankshaft, with its copper windings fully exposed. You can watch mechanical motion become current.
Two digital displays read out both channels in real time — 12V and 5V side by side — while the onboard USB port delivers power straight to your phone.
This is where it stops being a model and becomes a power plant. The engine's motion belts into the open-frame generator, the dual meters come alive — then clip on a lamp and watch combustion turn into light, the way farmhouses first made their own electricity.
The lamp channel — for the ritual of lighting a vintage bulb with your own engine.
A modern port on a century-old idea — standard USB-A, wired to the onboard regulator.
Connect the CDI ignition module and battery box (4× AA batteries — they power the ignition only), and install the chimney. Everything is plug-in; no tuning needed.
Mix regular gasoline with 2T two-stroke oil (garden-machinery type) at 25:1 (gasoline : 2T oil), fill the tank, and add water to the open hopper. Before starting, confirm the spark is firing and there's no air trapped in the fuel line.
Spin it up with the included drill-start adapter (electric drill not included) or the manual recoil starter. Dial from a lazy 1200 RPM idle to a busy 3000 RPM. Shut down by cutting ignition power or closing the fuel valve.
