The Capo Skyline GT-R R34 1/8 kit ships as a complete car with no tools in the box. Here are the twelve you need to build it, with the exact specifications to order.
Hex driver
Your main tool. The R34 is assembled almost entirely with hex socket screws, so this one is in your hand for most of the build. Buy an RC-style driver with an aluminium handle rather than an L-shaped Allen key — the L key won't turn inside the chassis and rounds out small sockets fast.
Precision Phillips screwdriver
For the interior and smaller body fixings. Get a magnetised one. Drop a screw inside the assembled shell and you're taking the body back off to fish it out.

Nut driver
A handful of fasteners on the car use M2 nuts, and pliers will chew the corners off them. Size by the flats, not the thread.
Precision electric screwdriver
Not essential, but it saves hours across hundreds of screws.
Finish the last turn by hand. The chassis is magnesium and aluminium, and a powered driver seated at full torque will strip the threads.

Flush cutter
For removing parts from their gates cleanly, especially the clear lens components. Cut slightly proud of the part and clean the rest up with a knife.

Long nose pliers
For ball-link rods, hose routing and anything your fingers can't reach. Included in the pliers kit above.
Ball-joint pliers
With independent suspension front and rear there are a lot of ball links to seat. Pressing them home by hand is the step most builders quit on for the night. If you buy one nice-to-have tool, make it this one.
Hobby knife
Cleaning up gate marks and flash. Change the blade more often than feels necessary — a dull blade tears plastic instead of slicing it.
Tweezers
Bronze bushings, bearings, E-clips, washers and interior trim are all easier with tweezers than fingers. The self-closing pair earns its place at the end of the build: it holds a badge, handle or lens in position while the glue sets.

Screw glue
This car is built to be driven, and metal fasteners in metal will vibrate loose without it. One small drop on the thread tip, not a flood. Low strength is what you want, so the screw still comes out for maintenance.
Metal-to-metal only. Screw glue on plastic parts will corrode and crack them.
Super glue and gear grease
CA for bonding plastic components — keep it away from clear lenses, as the vapour fogs them permanently. Grease goes on the gears in the 2-speed gearbox, and nowhere else. Greased bearings drag and cost you speed.
Cutting mat
The body panels are magnesium alloy with a factory finish and a bare bench will mark them. You also need a surface you can cut on without ruining the table.

Clear orange paint and a detail brush
Optional, and the cheapest upgrade on this list. Brushing clear orange over the indicator lenses gives you the amber the real car has instead of colourless plastic. Thin coats, dry between each, stop before it goes opaque. No airbrush needed.
Questions
Which hex sizes do I actually need?
1.5 mm is the one you can't build without. A 1.5 / 2.0 / 2.5 / 3.0 mm set is the common RC standard and covers this kit plus anything else on your bench, so most builders buy the set.
Can I use blue or red threadlocker instead?
Stick with purple 222. Blue (242/243) is medium strength and makes small fasteners hard to remove later. Red (271) is effectively permanent at this size — it will shear the screw before it releases.
Do I need an airbrush?
No. The body arrives finished. An airbrush is only relevant if you want a custom colour or a clear coat over it.
What if I strip a screw or break a part?
